Legislate and tax more landlords out of the market so there are even less homes for these people to rent ? Bit of an EPIC FAIL when the buy to let market shrinks by 20% and homelessness rises by ???% !
When is this government going to realise that their policies on the taxation and constant legislation of private landlords is only increasing the housing problem in this country?! As more and more selective licensing comes in and drives landlords out, councils fail to comprehend the key question; whilst we try and build more houses to accommodate people, is it not a better idea to entice landlords to invest because even a slightly less quality roof over your head is better than no roof at all isn’t it?…
This can’t be right
According to Govt and their inane S24 all the homeless should be FTB because S24 is hounding the nasty mortgaged sole trader LL out of business!!!!!??
I’m perplexed as to why we aren’t seeing millions of FTB buying up all the properties that LL are no longer buying or even buying the ones LL are selling
It is almost as though an economically illiterate and incompetent Chancellor has thought up a bonkers policy inspired by a Geography graduate!!??
With the resultant effect of fewer rental properties being available.
people under 35 years no longer get benefit for a one bedroom flat only a room, housing benefit is capped in the prs, and tenants are given their housing benefit in their hand so they spend it instead of paying their rent for initially the first 3 months, then you have to prove they are vulnerable. Or they have no intention of taking responsibility for their rent. Always someonelse’s fault.
Giving landlord the rent directly from the beginning just might help. This is the reason there is more homelessness and the growth in population.
Maybe Shelter should pay the landlords the first 3 months arrears to stop homelessness rather than just talk about bad landlords and children in poverty. Perhaps shelter doesn’t realise that the benefits follow the children and the parent spend this money instead of keeping their children in a house. It is bad parenting.
We could do away with the CEO high salaries and use the money to build more houses.
