Sex for shelter- One scandalous result of our housing crisis.

When you hear of vulnerable young people paying for shelter with sexual favours, what country springs to mind? We would be willing to bet that the UK isn’t the first place that you thought of. Yet that’s exactly what’s happening right here in one of the worlds ‘developed countries’ and ‘leading economies’.

Disgracefully more and more adverts are appearing on websites offering accommodation in exchange for intimacy. One example advert is below.

‘Free accommodation and bills for a woman in exchange for house work and fb/fwb. House mate only home two to three days a week due to work. Please send picture and description.’

Disgraceful it may be, but surprising it is not. We are pretty deep into this housing crisis now and unfortunately sex has been used as a currency since the dawn of time. The Guardian reports that this menace is “a by-product of a housing crisis where young people are unable to find somewhere to live without spending exorbitant sums”.

Ha Ha, I found this story quite amusing because quite frankly it would make a tenant history on any tenant that paid for their rent with sexual favours very difficult.

I think it was quite sad that the BBC tried to justify it as a real life issue that affects all woman that rent property when it is just a couple of sado’s that can’t get a girlfriend and that want a convenient shag once a week. Have they never heard of Tinder? Who advertises a flat on Craig list anyway?

The truth is, I think that any woman who needs to resort to this type of arrangement and does resort to this type of arrangement either wants to for financial gain or needs to because of underline problems like drug or alcohol abuse as per the interview with the woman who said “he gave me drugs and drink”.

Come on the Beeb! you don’t see young Suzie from the Greggs counter selling her body twice a week unwillingly because she will be on the street if she doesn’t.

This story that was ridiculously main stream news for a day way surely no more news than the age old scenario of any woman selling her body to any man willingly and then paying the rent with the proceeds. But, as is the BBC way now they need to make it a sexiest issue and portray male landlords as untrustworthy and sleazy, and women as victims and quite frankly their portrayal of this is distorted and very distasteful.

If they had interviewed me I would have told them that over the years as a landlord I have been offered sex 3 times to pay the rent by 3 very attractive young women more than half my age (I preferred the cash) but if I remember rightly when I was 18, I myself (whilst very drunk one night)  had to entertain my landlady fat Kate because I fell into rent arrears on my bedsit.Laugh
