If you are a landlord, or thinking of letting your home, you simply have to read this salutary (and anonymous) tale: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/my-19-month-35-000-fight-to-evict-a-nightmare-tenant-9qqfbfwqp?shareToken=2cd6e015b8d7f0407db12ac0c527320e
One should not have to be a lawyer to be a landlord and the system should not be so complicated. The government has made the system as complicated as possible so as to deter landlords, why I do not know except perhaps to favour their corporate friends.
I have been a landlord for more than 30 years and am still caught out by the increasingly complex rules associated with section 21. Except for rent arrears section 8 evictions are near impossible to prove making them almost useless.
Antisocial behaviour could be stopped at the stroke of a government pen by making evictions easier. This would not affect the stability of solvent, well behaved families for no sane landlord evicts a tenant who causes no trouble.
