A landlord has been threatened with police action after he rescued his tenant’s cat from appalling conditions in a faeces-covered flat.

Michael Moody seized the one-year-old black and white cat after neighbours reported hearing its cries for help ‘day and night’ and was horrified by what he saw.

Animal-lover Mr Moody, 40, found his flat in Skegness, Lincolnshire, covered in faeces and rubbish from bin bags which the cat had scavenged from for food. He believes the cat, which he has renamed Bob, only survived on toilet water and has refused to hand him back despite being threatened with being reported to police for theft.

Mr Moody said: ‘I think he [the tenant] just wanted some company, but he needs to learn to look after himself before he starts looking after a pet.

‘I have never heard something as bad as this – he is just an innocent cat. We’ve taken control. The owner is not getting the cat back. He did get hostile and threatened to call the police, but what would they do?

‘After concern from other residents in my property about the cat crying through the day and night I’ve decided to intervene only to discover the cat had been left for a considerable length of time on it’s own, whilst seeming to living of what it could find with no clean water.

‘So the cat we shall call Bob is now safe with me and my partner and he’s in good hands. He is very friendly and loves people, he is house trained.

‘I’ve been informed I will be reported to the police, should I do this. I believe I’m doing the right thing whether it’s legal or not. I’m hoping to find a loving home for a little black cat.’

Mr Moody and his fiancee Magda Obiala, who already have two German shepherds and three cats at their family home, are now appealing on Facebook to rehome Bob.

He said: ‘Bob is a lovely cat and we can’t let him down, so we want to make sure he goes to the right home.’ http://metro.co.uk/2018/01/07/landlord-threatened-police-action-rescuing-cat-faeces-covered-flat-7210739/
