This comes after a recent poll suggested that over half of people would be in favour of a tax on empty properties, where latest figures show there are 198,000 empty homes (excluding holiday homes) in Ireland.
I was a landlord up until last year and had an identical experience to that in the article. Tenant left owing 3 months rent and the property was destroyed. It cost thousands to repair, and I was forced to sell and make a loss since I bought at the peak and then had to migrate because of the lack of work in Ireland, I worked hard to keep the property because if I had sold a year later I probably would have got less than half what I paid for it. Landlords have no rights at all and it's disgraceful!
