A 1 Billion Pound unprecedented repercussion!

An article by inside housing examined the figures from 290 local authorities and calculated that last year alone, local councils’ temporary accommodation spend neared £1bn (£937m).

With this figure being reported as a 56% increase in just 5 years, we can’t help but think this is part of the repercussion resulting from years of chipping away at private landlords’ incomes, rights and support.

The pressure that the Government has placed on the sector has meant that more and more landlords are calling time on their rental properties and selling up. Or they’ve decided that they need to protect their shrinking incomes further by letting only to tenants with a glowing credit rating and putting an outright ban on DSS tenants.

This in turn has resulted in a simple supply and demand issue where there just aren’t enough rental properties to go around, especially for those on housing benefits. So, when councils can’t find an available council property, and there’s no private rentals to turn to, they have to fork out for B&B’s, hotels and guest houses to keep families off the street – to the tune of one Billion pounds.

Q – So, who pays for this money down the drain?

A – Every. Single. Tax. Payer!

It is truly unbelievable that the politics in this country and inept governments one after the other continue to run us into the ground. When are we going to stand up and say enough is enough and get rid of them all once and for all. It must be time for a vote of no confidence surely?

This £1 billion is our money that has been throw down the drain to keep people off the streets because the very people that could house them have been hounded out of business with legislation and tax are not going anywhere and the bill will rise and rise as more landlords like me bail

Why would you attack an industry that can help solve a problem especially when there is not enough rented houses to go around already and while the ship is sinking with our crumbling high streets, collapsing stock market failing NHS, armed forces, and every other public service on the edge of another recession abyss our prime minister is over in South Africa dancing around like a marionette offering them £4 billion of our money.

“HELLO TERAESSAAAAA” am I missing something here? we need the £4 billion here in our roads, houses, schools, hospital and prisons, you remember them dont you?, the ones you keep saying cant have anymore money because you do not have any.

there has been over 2000 empty houses (800 empty for over a year )just in the west end of Paisley…..apparently no-one wants them , or they can’t rent them, been left to rot etc Yet they say there is no housing . Why has this been allowed to happen. Why is SHELTER not all over this!!!  I used to live there when young. So if it was good enough for me it is good enough  for everyone else!Surprised
