Hi All,

Why cant they have a pre-loaded benefit debit card that claimants can only use in certain supermarkets and that will not allow them to buy contraband, lets face it we cant buy 3 pack of Asprin so how hard can it be to stop them buying booze and fags. The only thing they could buy then is food and if its full of eeeee's and a bad diet the scanner will say uh oh!.Laugh

Job done.

WinkSo what you could end up with is if they weren't allowed to buy food with lots of eeeeee's in it you would end up with a lot of healthy non-obese benefit claimants.

I am trying to see what could be so wrong for that………………………Oh just thought someone will go to the ECHR with a test case saying it is infinging their human rights not to be a fat slob if they want to be one!!!

Ha Ha Paul,

They could fat slobs but it would just mean they would just have to go to work to buy the eeee;s with their own money, but,  the problem will be cured.

Do you think that could be a new blog would you work for eeee's Laugh

Morning everyone!

It's only the 9th Feb and I've lost count of how many “rogue landlord” television programmes and articles there have been already this year!

Did anyone see the One Show last night? ; Last Nights One Show.  (starts 02.05 minutes in)

Does anyone else see the link between the new government policy failing & the constant media onslaught against landlords?

In September 2011 it was “revealed” that there were nearly 1,500 “rogue” landlords in England; researched by the housing charity Shelter.
In last nights programme they predicted that in the coming year the amount of rogue landlords is set to double, and that the current situation of rogue landlords (in Newham) is currently “endemic”.

Now, by Shelters research this would equal 3,000 rogue landlords in England by the end of the year.
Considering that we have 200,000 tenants on our database (right across the whole of the UK), with approximately 80% of them being rogue tenants ~ something doesn't quite add up here, does it?

In December 2011, after Channel 4’s ‘Dispatches: Landlords from Hell’ programme, more than 1000 Shelter supporters wrote to the Housing Minister to ask him what exactly he planned to do to protect families from rogue landlords.

With the new government policy opening the floodgates to conmen who are exploiting both the vulnerable, the tax payer AND the government; stereotyping every single landlord across the country as a “rogue landlord”;
My question to Grant Shapps (Housing Minister) today is

HOW exactly do you plan to protect good landlords from rogue tenants and good tenants from rogue neighbours and also recognise the good landlords out there (who are the majority) ? ? ?

Just because there have been a handful of high profile cases of child carers being child molesters, doesn't mean that we go round thinking that EVERY child carer is one, do we ?

im no landlord, letting agent or tenant (anymore anyway) but i too am absolutely sick of hearing about these rogue landlords.
i own my own homes now but when i was a tenant i treated every property I lived in as if I did own it, and in return every single one of my landlords treated me with the same respect.

i'm not saying that there aren't rogue landlords out there, but i think personally that the majority of rogue landlords have been created by the overwhelming amount of bad tenants out there, destroying their property and just having no respect for their property. (take it from me, as ive lived next door to a few!)

i think i'd go slightly(!) mad too if I was continually trying to help people by giving them a roof over their head and in return they kept smashing it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Madge,

Thanks for post it is great to hear from a tenant who sees a landlords point of view, I have 138 tenants now and the only ones who say I am a bad landlord are the ones who are constantly in arrears or who damage the property and party all night. It makes me laugh when they go to the Council to complain about us and we then get the call from the housing officer and tell them the the other side of the story, they just sigh and apologise for calling us.

But I have found that there are 2 real different types of tenants ones that make their rental property their home and ones that think you are a discount hotelier.. I am happy to say that having now been involved for nearly 2 years  with LandlordReferencing.co.uk  and having been able to comunicate with other local landlords & Agents through this web site, 99% of my tenants are now the home making version and they give me the opportunity to continue to be a good landlord.

Look at this story (that AgencyExpress kindly pointed out)

Benefits cheat council worker claimed £200,000 despite having £500,000 property portfolio and three jobs…

If our government is setting this kind of example what hope to do they have of stopping the general public from doing the same ??? !!!

I believe THIS is why the government are stereotyping all landlords as rogues – to detract from the fact that THEY'RE THE CORRUPT ONES!
