reading the comments from yesterdays guardian blog on pay day loans (questioning your websites security) as a tenant of 10+ years i just wondered if you could give me an explanation of how secure my details would be & what details you actually give out IF my landlord was to give you my details please?

Afternoon Curious.

Here at Landlord Referencing, along side the protection of good landlords & good tenants, the security of our members data is our first priority.

If your landlord was to register to join our community; first of all they would be put into a quarantine file where they would not be granted full member privileges until they had confirmed their identity by a telephone conversation with their personal data-controller, via various security protocols we have in place.

Once their identity had been verified & they had in-putted your details into our system the only person that would have access to view your personal file would be your data-controller; who fully adheres to the current Data Protection Protocols set out by the ICO.

The way our Lifestyle Referencing system works is that if a landlord / letting agent wants to do a search on you (as their potential tenant) they would simply enter your details into our search form and would either receive an email from us with NO MATCH (meaning that your details have not been found)


MATCH (meaning that your details have matched up with the details your previous landlord has provided us with).

Now if your potential new landlord did receive a MATCH, the ONLY information we would provide them with is your previous landlords contact details. Who they could then contact and find out what you’re really like as a tenant.

(Another security protocol that we have in place is that all members must upload a minimum of 6 tenants otherwise when they search our database they will receive an automatic reply of NO MATCH – we believe that this further verifies they are a landlord and also proves that they wish to be part of our ever-growing community. (If they had less than 6 tenants to upload they’d simply contact their personal data-controller and simply explain their situation and we would override the system, in these kind of circumstances).

Also, Landlord Referencing members can now access directly into Experian’s services via our site, but Experian DO NOT have access to any of our data, and never will.

We have had rogue tenants attempting to access our site (see e)her in the past but because we are manually controlled we immediately saw through them and denied them access.

Even if our protocols were cleverly hacked; the beauty of our site is that as we don’t give out ANY sensitive details to ANYONE, so if a tenant was to do a search on themselves the most information they could access would be their previous landlords contact details, and the same goes for anyone else trying to fraudulently find out a person’s whereabouts.

The same goes for Tenant Alerts ~ the way that they comply with data protection is that we only provide the tenants name in the alert, no other sensitive information AT ALL.

and is it possible for a tenant to view their landlord referencing file or information?

Sorry for the delay in reply, all systems are GO at the minute in the Landlord Referencing office!

To request your personal file, including all details that your previous landlord has uploaded, all you would simply need to do is send your request in writing to us, along with a one-off payment of £5 and then we would supply you with all the information we have about you stored on our tenant database.

If you are local; drop into the office any time, between 9am-5pm (Mon-Fri), & we'll can have a cuppa & explain any other queries you have.

I pwould have no issues in sending the details I uploaded on a tenant and the tenancy outcomes.

Indeed i would post the report to the tenants's notified address.

Can you see many tenants doing that if they left under a cloud.
