 - - -

Has anyone else had these bills through today?

As if we haven't got enough to do in our lives now, what with paying for selective licensing, corporation tax, dealing with the VAT, employers liability tax, NI tax, and all the other administration that takes up all my time!

So instead of earning a living and running my businesses I'm now expected to send £2.67 because I owe NSDC 1 days council tax as a landlord because one tenant moved out and another moved in ?!

I'd love to know how much it costs the council/tax payers to send all these out...

Seriously, what the f### has happened to this country?! Yell

Hi Sharon,

I so know how you feel yesterday I spent ½ the day dealing with the selective licensing problem because the government wants to take £14,000 off me to inspect my properties, I then spent an hour with the VAT office discussing why I should not have the members of landlordreferencing.co.uk taxed in in VAT and IPT at 30% for the products they buy to protect themselves and their incomes. After that I had another ½ hour conversation with my accountant as to why the government is trying to charge me £200,000 in tax because we wrote down loans with the bank by down valuing our properties which have never recovered after the recession they caused.  Of course the cost of that call and the accountants time was down to me.

I then finished up with a meeting as to paying a corporation tax bill of £28,000 followed by a payment of employer’s contribution and NI payments for the staff and the new pension scheme we all have to contribute too.

In fact I never had time to earn any money for the company or try and promote the company because I spent the whole day in fact nearly all week giving it to the government or trying to stop the government nicking it from me.

I have to say I am at my wits end with this lot because I spend all day and more and more of what we earn every day dealing with more legislation, more taxes and more bureaucratic tossers than I have ever done before and I have no time to develop and growing my business. It is not surprising the economy is deader than a stagnated pond when all the business entrepreneurs have to spend two days of every week dealing with more and more read tape.

This so called conservative government put socialism to shame when it comes to controlling our lives, this lot are like being ruled by Lenin, or Vidal I am going to vote for Corbyn because he is more conservative than all of them.

A message to Ms May and her Chancellor Philip Hammond from business across the UK ….. FFS let us get on and grow our business, let us start living our lives and make money so we can grow and employ, stop milking us for every penny you can before the UK pond dries up and everyone with an entrepreneurial though packs up and leaves.

Sharon two points, Firstly I asked my council for details of the cost of issuing council tax demands and they said that they did not have that information.  When they issued new council tax demands I asked them how they produced their estimates when they had no idea of their costs - I never did receive a reply.

Secondly I have had a ten year argument with my council concerning the liability for the last day of the tenancy and produced a long thread on this site.  You are NOT NOT NOT NOT liable for the last day of the tenancy and should not pay.  The council are as RONG as my spelling.  I can give you all the information you require to fight this iniquitous charge if you contact me through Paul Routledge.

Don't want to upstage you but I had the bailiffs threatened over a bill of 10 pence (sent to me by Royal Mail).  I paid with ten one penny coins taped to the payment slip and sent in a reply paid envelope.

As to your 32 pence why not take it to a tribunal at no cost to you and a hell of a lot of work for the council‽

Hi David,

I am a new member and currently in the process of arguing with my council, Cheltenham, over the one day council tax charge, what was the outcome of your discussions with your council, I read through your thread of 2014 but there was no conclusion, did you sort it out?

thanks

Apologies for the delay in replying rowangate as I have been away for the last month.

There was no conclusion to my protestations with the council, it refused to speak to me or discuss the situation - a truly despicable attitude.  BUT I am no longer charged for the last day of a tenancy so in essence it is a climb down without actually formally resolving the situation.  I know from other sources that the problem was discussed with councils throughout Kent.

For your protection there are extra clauses which can be included in your lease to make the situation abundantly clear, in particular the lease MUST terminate at midnight (irrespective of the time the tenant actually leaves) and any continuation after the fixed term MUST be as a Contractual periodic tenancy not a Statutory periodic tenancy.

If you need any help please contact me through Landlord Referencing who have my permission to pass my email address to you.
