Jumio ensures Right to Rent compliance for referencing agencies

According to the new legislation, landlords, letting agents and tenant services agencies need to check if their tenants living in the UK have the right to rent, by checking their identity and making sure they are whom they say they are, in accordance with the Immigration Act 2014. LandlordReferencing.co.uk has been using Jumio to seamlessly validate the IDs of potential tenants in its tenant referencing platform providing added security for both tenants and agents.

In 2015 LandlordReferencing.co.uk decided to comply with the initial Right to Rent pilot launched in the West Midlands by using Jumio’s ID verification technology, Netverify. The legislation required that all landlords and letting agents verify their tenant’s identity, making sure they hold an authentic, un-manipulated, government-issued ID.

Since Jumio’s implementation, LandlordReferencing.co.uk has successfully complied with the newly launched legislation by performing quick and simple checks, providing landlords and letting agents additional peace of mind.  Since their adoption of Netverify, the company has verified hundreds of tenants IDs from the UK and the European Union.

Earlier this year the Right to Rent legislation has been extended to the whole of UK, as part of a national roll-out. Landlords and agencies that do not comply with this new regulation may face a £3,000 fine.
