David Cameron’s mum petitions against Tory cuts
David Cameron’s own mother has signed a petition on 38 Degrees which hopes to stop Conservative cuts.
Mary Cameron, 81, has put her name down on a petition calling for the end to Oxfordshire County Council plans to close 44 children’s centres in the area.
The Conservative-run council is hoping the closures of the centres will save around £8million.
The centres are described in the petition as ‘a lifeline to new parents who rely on locally accessible advice and support at a time when it is most needed.’
When asked to comment, Mary told the Mirror: ‘My name is on the petition but I don’t want to discuss this any further.’
Jill Huish who is running the campaign against the closures said Mary’s signature just shows ‘how deep austerity is cutting – Even David Cameron’s mum has had enough’
This isn’t the first time the Prime Minister’s mother has refused to let family get in the way of principle as during her 30 years of being a magistrate, she passed judgment on a number of Greenham Common protesters – including her own sister.
