28% of landlords have had their property damaged by tenants in the last year
Research by the National Landlords Association (NLA) had found that 28% of landlords have revealed that they have had a tenant damage their property within the past year.
400,000 landlords see their property damaged by tenants each year. This is worst in the North East with 46% of landlords in the region having their properties damaged by tenants.
NLA chairman Carolyn Uphill said: ‘Property damage is just one of the many different problems a landlord can experience when letting property. Many are unaware that a simple home insurance policy will not provide sufficient cover for all eventualities, so we’re urging all landlords to protect their investments.’
Comprehensive rent guarantee insurance, such as our own, protects the landlord against damage done to their property by tenants.
It is also extremely important that tenants who are prone to causing vast amounts of damage to their landlord’s property know that there will be repercussions. By using our tenant referencing system these tentants will find it more difficult to find a property and therefore won’t be given the chance to trash somebody else’s investment.
